my take on a classic penny loafer, something reimagined for my muse peggy guggenheim. made from veg tan dead stock leather and utilising all my favourite parts of the hide, as a celebration of leather in all its natural (im)perfection. this shoe was inspired by my signature painting style whereby textiles are draped on canvas and blacked out. here i was able to apply the same idea to leather by pleating it over the last. hand goodyear welted construction and hand outsole stitched, with a double stacked outsole. the stitching starts at the outer waist and stops just before the inner. broken up between the pleats to mirror the deconstructed mocca-stitch finish on the upper, with red accents threaded throughout. french piping lines the topline and tongue, raw hide edge leather trimmings adorn the shoe with a dog ear at the back and tongue inside the belt. in honour of margiela, one of my greatest influences, four stitches compliment the asymmetric pair.
